Great Ocean Road

The Twelve Apostles

Saw these horses being exercised by having them swim behind a rowboat! So interesting!

Unfortunately never saw any seals or whales, scenery was spectacular!

The Great Ocean Road Pt. 1

I know I've been very slow to post on the blog, I'm going to try harder now!

These photos are just a few that I took on our long weekend travelling Southwest of Melbourne.

It truly was as spectacular as the ads boasted!

Part of the Twelve Apostles -- a couple have fallen down though.

WILD KOALA!!

Loved the different shades of blue.

John and some friends on the beach!

Melbourne Cup Parade

Horse Racing & all that goes with it are very important around here! This was a cute parade and it was fun seeing a few past winners of The Cup'
Mostly saw jockeys, owners, and/or trainers in fancy new convertables.
The press was there and a couple bands and some clowns & people on stilts.

Family History Footnotes

Just a few family history footnotes from both our sides. I was disappointed in the beef pies, so maybe she's Scottish? ;-)
It's funny that Heffernan Lane was in the Greek District.

I'm glad that there is a strong showing of Carr's in politics.

major producers in Australia--western victoria--image holsteins making 100 lbs/d (46 l) on grass with some supplement. then imagine this in the dry season with a bushfire raging.... quite a challenge.

just one view of the south coast

this is a lighthouse on the rocks

Mark Billing, one of the best dairy farmers in the world. about 400 cows on pasture, managed to the minute, dealing with rain, drought, bushfires. dairy in the family for 4 generations--teacher, youth leader, baseballer (unfortunately a Yankee fan), great forward thinking business person. and lots of nice cows.

pet brown swiss, not a major producer, no comment on the human but note his Washington Dairy Federation shirt.

so we were walking around Melbourne on Derby Day, pronounced "Darby Day", a big kick off to horse-racing, fashions, etc. and there was this wedding going on. I caught this particular vehicle and chatted with the owner, who obviously runs a chaffuer system. he rebuilds cars and rebuilt this one from an original American Chevy. I am sure you will note a few things. it's fun to drive on the wrong side...

here are some of the latest. car buffs beware.
